BIOGRAPHY
Patricia Cordero is a multifaceted Spanish violinist recognized for her “musical maturity and exceptional virtuosity brimming with enthusiasm” (Scherzo, 2021). She is currently pursuing advanced studies at the Musik-Akademie Basel and collaborating with musicians and ensembles across Europe.
Patricia has won top prizes in twelve national and international violin competitions, including the 2nd prize at the XXV Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition and 1st prize at the VIII Premio Francesco Geminiani, as well as string quartet prizes, such as the the EMCY Prize at Juventudes Musicales de España Chamber Music Competition 2019. She has performed as a soloist under the baton of David Afkham, Lucas Macías, Hansjörg Schellenberger, among others, notably performing Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins alongside Anne-Sophie Mutter with the Viesgo Chamber Orchestra at Madrid’s Sony Auditorium.
A distinguished chamber musician, Patricia has been invited to numerous festivals, including Krzyżowa-Music, Hohenstaufen Akademie, Eggenfelden Klassisch, Gstaad, Villars Music, Pau Casals - El Vendrell, Barcelona Obertura, and Schubertíada, where she has collaborated with renowned artists such as Nobuko Imai, Rainer Schmidt, Ivan Monighetti, Paul Meyer, Volker Jacobsen, Jan Vogler, and Viviane Hagner. During her studies in Madrid, she was a member of the Óscar Esplá de Asisa Quartet under the tutelage of Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet), and since 2024, she is a scholarship holder at the Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz Foundation, taking part in chamber music concerts across Germany.
As an orchestral musician, she was a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra Academy (BRSO) in Munich from 2023 to 2025, led by Sir Simon Rattle, and is currently an academist with the Kammerorchester Basel since September 2025. She has also collaborated with orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, and the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya - where she is regularly invited to play as assistant concertmaster.
Passionate about historical performance, which she studied with Paul Goodwin and Lina Tur Bonet at the Reina Sofía School of Music, she later took part in Baroque projects on period instruments with the BRSO. She continues to deepen this approach as an academist with the Kammerorchester Basel, known for its historically oriented sound and its use of gut strings, and as a Baroque violin student at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
Alongside, she enjoys creating interdisciplinary projects that blend classical music with jazz, and continues to deepen her knowledge of jazz within the Musik-Akademie Basel. Committed to innovative projects, she has promoted women composers through initiatives such as Devolviendo la voz (Reina Sofía School of Music) and the EP Trésors Trouvés. She has collaborated on with contemporary dancers with the BRSO Akademie, participated in the Proyecto Arriaga with the Spanish National Dance Company at the Granada Festival, and performed in the children’s show Pulcinella, combining acting and chamber music. She is active in music education, contributing to BRSO educational projects in Munich and teaching at the 2024 Young Artists Summer Camp of Reina Sofía School.
Patricia began playing the violin at the age of three and later completed her intermediate music studies, receiving Spain’s highest national award. She then continued at the Reina Sofía School of Music, guided by Professors Marco Rizzi and Sergey Teslya, where she was twice awarded ‘Most Outstanding Student’ by H.M. Queen Sofía, in both violin and chamber music. She has also attended numerous international academies, supported by scholarships from Juventudes Musicales de Madrid and AIE Artistas, where she received masterclasses from Nora Chastain, Kolja Blacher, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, among others. Awarded the prestigious “la Caixa” Postgraduate Scholarship Abroad (2025), she is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Musik-Akademie Basel (Switzerland) with Rainer Schmidt, alongside a minor in Baroque violin with David Plantier at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
